I'm a Brit living in a small town in the south west of Germany, on the edge of a nature park, the Schwäbisch-Fränkischer Wald. The landscape is very hilly with vineyards & orchards on the lower slopes merging into forest above. 42 years young, married since 1997 to my lovely wife.

A.M. I’ve decided to ease back this week. Last week I felt tired each day and no freshness in my legs. I had a lack of enthusiasm to run each day and a poor workout on Sun morn. A start today was a gentle paced long run on a cold, frosty morn. Total 35,6k in 2:54:31. av pace 4:54/k, 7:53/mi.

Definitely sounds like the start of mild overtraining. I'm not sure I'd call 22.10 miles at 7:53/mi "gentle". Maybe make sure your recovery days are truly very very easy to get your batteries recharged.

Sometimes you need to throw in something different to respark the enthusiasm. That was the real reason I ran my race on Sunday....I needed to people and the atmosphere....everything else was gravy.

I was thinking the same thing. . .22.1 miles at under 8 minute pace is taking it easy? I heard you can do your long runs as much as 2 minutes per mile slower than goal marathon pace, so 8:40 average would be ok. Do take it easy. You won't lose a thing. You'll only get hungry.
